Several years ago, success in my life was defined by how well my real estate career was going and having raised three children to adulthood. But even then I didn’t feel successful. Then one day I began having trouble focusing; everything looked foggy. Doctors had a difficult time diagnosing the problem, but eventually I was told I had a rare disease known as birdshot retinopathy. A specialist told me to travel and see the world, as I would probably be blind in five to seven years.
I was put on a regimen of steroids and immunosuppressant therapy. I then contracted pneumonia and was put in the hospital for a week. I also tested positive for Lyme’s disease. At the end of that week, Karen and Kenny graciously allowed me to stay with them, and I began following Karen’s recommendations. I can remember I was so weak and literally thought I was going to die. My husband, Lee and I had been to some of Karen’s classes in the past, but only at the point of facing blindness and perhaps death was I motivated to change.
After about the fifth day, I began to feel like I might live. Lee agreed to make the transition to healthier eating with me, and that is what we did when we got home. Because my eye condition is an autoimmune disorder, I knew I must adhere to an anti-inflammatory diet, which is what Karen teaches. I admit at first it was hard for us, but we both stuck to it and we have reaped the benefits.
I am happy to say that the combination of surrendering my will to my Lord Jesus Christ, along with honoring my body as His temple by eating the right foods, and taking my life one day at a time have been such great blessings—blessings I would have missed had I not begun to lose my vision! It began this wonderful stream of connections to godly people and my total, absolute realization that God works all things for His perfect purpose. I am also happy to report that I am doing well with my therapy, and God willing, will not go totally blind. Even though I may not always see the physical things clearly, He has certainly changed the way I see spiritually. —NJW
In January 2004, my daughter, Sarah who was five years old, complained of severe stomachaches and diarrhea. When she began vomiting and running a fever, we went to the emergency room. It took nearly eight months of numerous tests and trips to the Children’s Hospital before she was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis and a rare liver disease called primary sclerosing cholangitis.
In the meantime, I had become pregnant. After I had Samantha in December 2004, I weighed 183 pounds. I had zero energy . . . but I attributed that to dealing with Sarah, who was still so sick and on lots of medications. I knew I needed to lose weight, and I thought that would solve my problems. But by December 2005, I was 208 pounds and resigned to being fat and ugly the rest of my life. I was exhausted all the time, took daily naps, and began having bladder problems. I lived on pain and allergy meds. My whole family had health issues. My husband weighed more than 425 pounds, and though we tried to diet, it never got us anywhere.
The first part of 2006 brought on more issues. My bladder problems got worse, and I had interstitial cystitis and a kidney stone. I was becoming depressed from the bills and the lack of energy. Sarah spent a week in the hospital, and then everyone in the family got the flu! It probably sounds like I am making this up, but unfortunately, every word is true . . . and this is only the summary!
In March of 2006, a friend of mine went to Karen’s class. She called me the next day and said, “You must get Sarah on this!” and told me about the Hallelujah Diet. My husband said he would do it, but when he Googled it on the Internet, he saw some negative publicity about it and said, “Forget it.”
Then in May, I “just happened” to be at a meeting that Karen was at. When Sarah made an appeal to raise funds for an organization that is looking for a cure for her liver disease, Karen talked with me and invited me to a class. My husband was against it, but with great skepticism, he finally agreed to go with me. Halfway through the class, he leaned over and said, “We really need to get Sarah on this.” I told him I wanted us all to do it. He agreed, and after class, we headed to the store and got our supplies to begin the journey that has changed our lives!
In the first week my bladder stopped hurting! Sarah started improving . . . but then we began detoxing. Yeah . . . we jumped in with both feet. Oh . . . we had headaches and our skin peeled . . . but we finally got over that. I noticed that the arthritis in my hands started getting better! For the first time in my life I wasn’t constipated and the weight came off. I lost forty pounds in five months. My husband lost ten inches in his waist in that time, and my family’s allergies completely cleared up.
Now I can function after lunch time; I have energy to play with my children, clean the house, and be the wife that I need to be. I didn’t have this before. I can walk nearly two miles in thirty minutes on my treadmill, and I can do an hour-long exercise tape without feeling like I am going to die! My daughter is taking a lot less medicine than she used to . . . and we haven’t been back to the hospital since starting this “LIVE-it.” Thank You, God, for connecting me with Karen! —Beth
Would you believe this? I am eating much better, walking several times a week, and have lost 27 pounds since your class 4 months ago!!! WOW!!! I had to call my doctor as I was feeling so faint, and he cut 3 of my medications in half (blood pressure, water pill, and potassium) and took me off 4 other over-the-counter things (Prilosec, vitamin E, Tylenol for arthritis, and garlic)!!! I have had NO reflux AT ALL and no pain from arthritis—my fingers used to hurt a LOT!
Thank you so much for your class! It was the beginning of the “new me”! —Ginger (72!!)
I attended Karen’s class when she was teaching the eight-week series at my church on Wednesday nights. The video testimonies from deathbed to absolute health were quite amazing. I had a hard time believing them at first, but after several weeks of watching so many success stories, I began to think there was something to this “Hallelujah Diet.”
When an eighty-three-year-old lady (full of vitality) spoke in person and told us she had been on a vegetarian program for twenty-six years and had not been sick in twenty-six years, I decided to give it a try.
I have been on a modified Hallelujah Diet ever since and have not been sick. IT HAS CHANGED MY LIFE! Recently I had my annual physical, and my doctor said I am his healthiest patient for my age (over fifty). I jog three miles most every day. —Bill S.
The pathway to wellness is not always easy. Nevertheless, I have learned that taking responsibility for my health is so very worthwhile. When the body is given the right nutrients, it can be healthy.
I had been challenged with stress-related illnesses most of my adult life, and when I met Karen, I was suffering from the pain of internal growths that would develop during peak stress periods. I had already had two major surgeries, and all symptoms indicated that I might have to face yet another.
Through Karen’s health seminar, I learned that although I was vegetarian and took supplements, my body wasn’t necessarily getting the proper nutrients required for optimum health. I realized that in order to have vitality and real balance in my life, I had to achieve a higher level of wellness mentally as well as physically. I began to make lifestyle changes, including taking the whole food supplements, while incorporating raw foods into my diet and getting more exercise. Over a period of three months, I began to feel better, and my masses completely dissolved. I am thankful for Karen and her health seminar, as she helped put me on the pathway to complete wellness. —E. Johnson
I grew up on a meat, potatoes, and cooked vegetables diet. My dad grew our vegetables and raised our beef and pork, and even the meat that was purchased didn’t have hormones and antibiotics in those days. I was considered a very healthy child, but looking back, I realize that even then I was toxic internally. Periodically I had problems with bad rashes and boils and took penicillin regularly for the boils. As an adult, I had many kidney infections which caused considerable scar tissue. In 1997 I developed diverticulitis and over the next two years spent many hours in the emergency room and hospital.
In early 1999, a friend gave me Reverend Malkmus’ book, God’s Way to Ultimate Health. It was an answer to prayer and changed my life. On Easter Sunday, 1999, I began a nutrition program like Karen teaches and within two months began to feel like a new person. Within a year I was checked again for diverticulitis, and it was gone!! The greatest effect of these nutrition changes and whole food supplements is that at age sixty-four, I have more energy and feel so much better than I did in my forties. I expect to be energetic and healthy for many years to come. —Carolyn
All of my adult life I have suffered from allergies and asthma. I have tried all of the traditional approaches, including allergy shots. I did not see much improvement. I constantly battled sinus infections and was given lots of antibiotics. Then I started developing allergies to the antibiotics and had to take Benadryl or prednisone in order to tolerate antibiotics. I also started having lots of skin problems; everything caused a reaction. Headaches were the norm, as was fatigue; my nails were brittle and so were my bones. Eventually, I developed thrush that wouldn’t go away. I had mild cases of pneumonia two years in a row in the spring. The next winter, I ended up with a bad case of double pneumonia and pleural effusions. I spent five days in the hospital and a couple of months recuperating.
It was at this low point that I was ready to make a real change in my lifestyle. Until then I was sure I could not live on such an extreme “diet.” After being so sick, I was sure I would not live without it. The results were incredible! By summer I was off all of my medicine and had not even one cold. Almost all of my allergies were gone! Also gone were my headaches and all of my skin problems. Three years later, I have stayed very healthy. Recently, I have had to start using toenail clippers on my fingernails because they are so strong. The thrush is gone, and my bone density has improved without any medicine. And the last two years my eyesight has improved greatly.
My children have made only small changes to their diet, but with that and the whole-food supplements, it has made a huge difference in their health, as well. Unfortunately, they were on most of the same medicines that I was, including lots of antibiotics and Prednisone. Our pediatrician noticed such radical improvement in all three of us that he said he needed more information on what we were doing! —MBF
Though I am only in my early twenties, most of my life has been consumed with one illness or another. As a child I had to have tubes put in my ears and had strep dozens of times. Mom was a nurse, so she gave me meds all the time while growing up, including numerous antibiotics. I was under hospital care beginning at age fourteen and took a literal shoe box full of meds for over seven years and had multiple surgical procedures. I was diagnosed with mitral valve prolapse, asthma, eczema, and gastroparesis as well.
I was told I had the probability of cancer or “precancerous cells” dozens of times as a teen. I suffered frequently with UTIs (urinary tract infections) and was eventually diagnosed with gastroesophageal reflux disease with severe symptoms which included throwing up daily, making it difficult to eat or digest food properly. I considered surgery to flip my stomach upside down to help, but opted not to.
Three years ago, I had had enough of suffering and decided the radical changes were worth a try. Though at first it freaked out my husband and family, I went “cold turkey” off all prescription meds. A year later I began my program with a fast of the fresh juices, raw fruits and vegetables, and the whole-food supplements Karen recommended, as well as the Fiber Cleanse to help my body detoxify and also the probiotics to correct intestinal bacteria. After making it through the cleansing without dying, I modified the program to include more variety and some cooked foods. Everyone is amazed by and thankful for the transformation in my health!
Here are some results thus far:
Reflux: 9 8 % gone
Throwing up: 100 % gone
Cancer-free and no symptoms
All respiratory and heart conditions gone
Still alive and kickin’!
All this because He (the LORD) lives and wants us to be in health! —Caelyn
I have known Karen and Kenny for a while and I felt very comfortable giving Karen the job as my nutrition coach. I have been a Type II diabetic for about ten years and have struggled with my weight for my entire life. I began using some of the whole-food supplements she recommended about a year and a half ago and saw an improvement in my glucose management, although my numbers were still too high and I didn’t lose as much weight as I wanted to.
Everything changed when Karen sent me a preview print of her new book. I read it cover to cover in one evening and got totally motivated. At last, a common-sense plan that taught me how to start slow with a goal of not dieting, but modifying my eating habits, long term. After three months I have lost twenty-five pounds, and my sugar is testing normal for the first time ever. I have totally changed the way I eat, and I feel better than I have in years. PTL, —Kim
At age thirty-five I was sitting in my doctor’s office explaining that I felt like I was out of control. Each day I felt as if I was going to strangle my child. I had turned into a screaming, angry, depressed maniac! I was tired, lethargic, and, for the most part, not a happy person. At the end of my work day I was done. I was having chronic bronchitis a couple of times a year. Though I exercised regularly most of my life and thought I ate well, something was not right.
The doctors concluded that I needed to start hormone therapy, and though the mood swings did level out some, I never felt like myself while on birth control pills. I was difficult to get along with, had no energy, fought yeast infections, and gained weight. I was exercising harder than ever, but the weight remained a constant problem. The worst part of being on the pill was that after a year, I was diagnosed with cervical cancer. It was a rapid-growth type, and within three months I had a partial hysterectomy.
Even though in the beginning I thought Karen was crazy, there was no denying her healthy appearance and energy. She walked the talk! So I made changes prior to having the surgery and I recovered very quickly. Since then, I have continued to implement these lifestyle changes; my family is on board with me as well, and we have all experienced great improvement with many health issues. My energy level is unbelievable—no more bouts with bronchitis. Even my overall appearance has changed, and people often comment that I don’t look my age.
I believe that God made our bodies to heal themselves if we will give our bodies the nutrients they need, and now I have experienced that healing for myself. We don’t have to fear cancer or heart disease or diabetes if we are being proactive about prevention . . . which is certainly easier than treatment! The key is what we put in the body. Choose life. I am grateful to God for teaching me how to do this. —MB
